Turn Your Greek Yogurt Around and Read the Back

Same shelf. Same price. Nearly twice the protein. Why the cup in your fridge is quietly underdelivering, and what to look for on the back.

You made the right decision already.

You skipped the sugary drinking yogurts. You went to the shelf with the thick Greek-style cups, the ones with the clean packaging and the word Greek on the front, and you paid ₦5,500 for one because you're trying to eat more protein and this seemed like the sensible way to do it.

That was a good call. It's just that you're getting less for it than you think.

Turn the cup around. Find the nutrition panel. Look at protein per 100g.

8 to 10gProtein per 100g on most cups on that shelf

On a 400g cup, that's 30 to 40 grams of protein for your ₦5,500.

Which is fine. It's just not what you're paying for.

Here's the same shelf, priced honestly.

Cup Protein per cup Price Per gram
Mich&Kay Greek Yogurt 35g ₦5,500 ₦157
Retaur Protein Yogurt 54g ₦5,500 ₦102
19g

Same price. Same size cup. More protein.

Over a week of one cup a day, that gap is 133g of protein you either got or didn't, for identical money.

Why the gap exists

It isn't that the other brands are cutting corners. It's that they're not built for this.

Greek-style yogurt is a dairy product that happens to have decent protein. It is formulated for texture and taste first, and the protein figure is whatever the recipe leaves behind. Nobody on that shelf was optimising for it, so nobody prints it on the front.

Retaur was built the other way round: the protein figure first, then the recipe that hits it. It is the first sports nutrition brand manufactured in Nigeria. Formulated for the number, produced and tested in Lagos, priced to sit on the same shelf.

54g Protein per 400g cup
13.6g Per 100g, lab-confirmed
The obvious question

β€œDoes 54g taste like chalk?”

No. Reviewers reach for the Greek comparison on their own: as thick as Greek yoghurt, creamy, filling without feeling heavy, better frozen. It is not perfect. There is no unsweetened option yet, and one reviewer thought the pack was smaller than expected. Both of those are fair.

β€œIs 54g even real?”

It is measured, not estimated. Protein base sourced from supplier line as you want to disclose it, produced and tested here, which is why 13.6g per 100g is a lab result on the actual cup rather than a figure copied off a supplier spec sheet. NAFDAC registration no: A8-118967L

Thick, creamy and tasty

This is my second order. Retaur protein yoghurt is as thick as Greek yoghurt, tastes creamy and better when frozen, and quite filling without making you feel heavy.

The besttttt

The taste is perfect, not sour, sweet but not too sweet. The texture is really good, feels like ice cream. And hitting my protein goals at the same time. They gained a customer for life.

Great but no options

The yogurt is great but no unsweetened option. Also the time from dispatch to delivery is too long. Otherwise it would have been 5/5.

Same shelf. Same money. Read both panels.

Most people start with two cups to check the taste, then reorder six. That's where the per-cup price bottoms out and a week is covered.
